Niklas Kaul has won gold in the decathlon at the World Athletics Championships in Doha. With an outstanding performance in the javelin throw he pulled before the 1500 -meter run to the leaders Maicel Uibo from Estonia and Damian Warner from Canada. But because Kaul was the better runner, he secured the title.
Uibo ended up second with almost 16 seconds and 87 points behind, with Warner third. With a strong second place in the final run, Tim Nowak finished tenth.
The 21-year-old also benefited from the failure of the top favorite Kevin Mayer, who had to cancel the pole jump due to injury and then had to give up the entire competition.
For the former World Championship third Kai Kazmirek, the dream of another medal against it has burst. The 28-year-old stuck to the fourth hurdle at the start of the second day of the competition, stumbled and retired. Although he has brought the decathlon to an end, but could no longer get to the medal ranks.
This year, Kaul had already won the title at the U23 European Championships.
