World competitiveness rank, Japan is 6th, that country is first place without the United States

The World Economic Forum (headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland), known for hosting the Davos Conference, where world leaders and business people gather, announced the 2019 International Competition Report. In the latest competitiveness ranking analyzed from economic indicators, Japan was ranked 6th, down one rank from 5th last year. The first place was Singapore, which reversed the United States, which was first place last year.

The report is compiled every year, and this year, 141 countries and regions around the world were evaluated for their competitiveness along 12 categories.

Japan was highly evaluated for its “health”, “introduction of ICT (information and communication technology)” and “infrastructure”. The details of “investigation and research” that lead to “innovation ability” were rated top in the world, while “diversity of workforce” (# 106) was rated low.

In East Asia / Pacific, Hong Kong ranked third, Korea ranked 13th, and China ranked 28th. (London = Shinya Wake)
