5 simple steps to protect it from security company 66% of people do not consider changing passwords after learning of major data breaches, and more than half have not changed their passwords in the past 12 months.

Despite the growing awareness of hacker attacks, especially through phishing and ransomware, the most used keyword in the world remains '123456'.

The security company Bitdefender remembers this on the occasion of World Password Day which falls every year on the first Thursday of May and therefore tomorrow.

The company recalls 5 measures to reduce the risk of password breach: use a password management tool; use 'single sign on' rather than creating an account and another password whenever possible; avoid services that don't support multi-factor authentication; adopt a safe behavior when online; use biometric recognition systems such as fingerprint and face identification.

"Most people in the world now have at least one password exposed due to a compromised website. Even a security expert like me is not immune. After an analysis, I found that my private information was exposed on about 40 hacked websites I signed up for - explains Alex 'Jay' Balan, Director, Security Research at Bitdefender - People often think they have nothing that criminals want, but in reality they don't. Users have different passwords for their e-mail services, video streaming platforms, school platforms and many other accesses. There remains the need to have a World Day dedicated to passwords to remind us how important this is ".
