WTO: A trade war between London and Brussels would be costly to both sides

The Director of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, expressed her hope that there would not be a trade war between Britain and the European Union against the backdrop of the Trade Management Agreement with Northern Ireland under the Brexit agreement, which was ratified last April after Britain's exit from the European Union.

Sputnik quoted Iweala as saying today: "With all the opportunities for dialogue, I would be a little surprised if a trade war ends up between them."

"It's very costly for both parties, and that's what the world doesn't need right now," Iweala said.

The European Union called on British Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier today to implement the agreement he signed for his country's exit from the European Union in full.

It is noteworthy that Johnson unilaterally postponed the implementation of some provisions of the Northern Ireland protocol within the Brexit agreement, which was opposed by the European Union countries.
