At many election campaign events in North Rhine-Westphalia in recent weeks, there have been repeated loud protests by so-called lateral thinkers and people demonstrating against the federal government's arms deliveries to Ukraine.
There had already been such protests in Cologne on Saturday, where police officers had separated hundreds of counter-demonstrators from the Greens' event at Cologne's Heumarkt, at which Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had also appeared.
At another election campaign date of the Greens on Laurentiusplatz in Wuppertal, Baerbock was even thrown with eggs at around 5 p.m. on Sunday, but was not hit.
The eggs were thrown by one or more demonstrators.
The protesters had previously chanted "Greens to the front" and "War mongers" and tried to disrupt the event.
After the incident, security officers stood next to Baerbock with a transparent protective shield, but it was no longer needed.
The Greens politician commented on the incident while still on stage, saying that she relied more "on the power of words" than on throwing eggs.
At the weekend, Baerbock supported the top candidate of the North Rhine-Westphalia Greens, Mona Neubaur, in several campaign appearances in North Rhine-Westphalia, where a new state parliament will be elected next Sunday.
Polls currently see the Greens at around 17 percent.
