Xavier Niel and Léon Bressler take on the giant Unibail shopping centers

2020-10-15T05:18:47.724Z

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - The two entrepreneurs, who own nearly 5% of Unibail Rodamco Westfield, want to prevent a capital increase and make a strategic 180-degree turn.

Thunderclap at the European leader in Unibail shopping centers Rodamco Westfield (URW).

With less than a month from a crucial general meeting for the future of the group, two entrepreneurs reveal this Thursday morning that they have the firm intention of playing spoilers.

Their profile is enough to worry Christophe Cuvillier, the chairman of the group's management board.

The first is, in fact, Xavier Niel, the rich founder of Free, majority shareholder of the telecoms and media group Iliad, business angel and keen on real estate investments;

the second, Léon Bressler, a renowned real estate professional, is less known to the general public, but very famous at URW: and for good reason, he was CEO of Unibail from 1992 to 2006.

Together, the two men have recently held 5% of URW's capital and intend to take the opportunity to force the group to make a strategic 180-degree turn.

To begin with, they want to prevent management from proceeding with the 3.5 billion capital increase.
