Xavier Niel has decided to transfer - for a symbolic euro - all of his holdings in the press which were housed in his holding NJJ Presse (Le Monde Libre,
L'Obs, France-Antilles, Nice-Matin, Paris Turf
), towards a foundation called Fund for the independence of the press.
However, he keeps only one part in order to be able to replenish the foundation, if necessary.

The businessman specifies that the shares held in
Le Monde
and
L'Obs
are now non-transferable by the foundation.
However, the latter retains the possibility of selling its shares in
N
ice-Matin
, France-Antilles and Paris Turf.
This new foundation therefore becomes a 26.6% shareholder of the Free World.
With the independence pole (controlled by employees) which holds 25.4% of the capital of the publisher of Le Monde, the latter is now 52% secure.
For his part, Matthieu Pigasse who, through his holding company Combat, also owns 26.6% of the Free World, is working on a solution
