A young man from Bavaria traveled to Sierksdorf and was found lifeless in the Baltic Sea a week later.

The criminal police do not rule out a crime.

Sierksdorf - A sports angler has found a lifeless body floating in the Baltic Sea off Sierksdorf (Schleswig-Holstein).

The body is a 26-year-old from Bavaria, as the police announced on Friday.

It cannot be ruled out that the 26-year-old was the victim of a crime, said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office to the dpa.

The criminal investigation department is puzzled over the circumstances of the death.

Death on the Baltic Sea: police investigations are ongoing - where was the 26-year-old the week before his death?

According to previous knowledge, there is no evidence of suicide.

The investigations of the officials revealed that the 26-year-old apparently traveled by train from his hometown in the Swabian administrative district to Hamburg on June 11 and spent the night there.

From there he also took the train to Sierksdorf on June 12th.

And then the trail of the Bavarian is lost until the angler finds him on the coast a week later.

What happened in between?

The police assume that he was in Sierksdorf until he was found.

According to the mother of the deceased, however, there are no known contact points there, as a message from the Lübeck police department shows.

There is also no trace of the young man's luggage so far.

Police are looking for clues from the population - "Who knows anything about the backpacks?"

The investigating officers of the criminal police in Neustadt in Holstein are looking for people who saw the man in Sierksdorf between June 12, 2021 and June 19, 2021.

The officials hope that the call will also provide information about the 26-year-old's luggage.

“Who knows anything about the backpacks?” It says in the police report.

Both of the deceased's backpacks were black, one of which is a so-called laptop backpack.
