The young pole vaulter Jakob Zimmer from SV Germering caused a huge surprise in the international match last Saturday in Aichach.

He reached a new Bavarian record with 4.60 meters.

Germering - In the vernacular, athletics is often referred to mildly as "running straight ahead, hopping and throwing" - but this is also not optimally possible without technology.

Specializing in a discipline like the pole vault proves to be even more difficult.

These athletes are known to fly the highest through the air and are accordingly referred to as high altitude hunters or even staff artists.

Pole vaulting not only requires good talent for a long time, it also requires physical control, speed and jumping power, good ability to implement difficult sequences of movements, a sense of balance, a high level of concentration and not only enormous physical agility, but also gymnastics skills.

Jakob Zimmer is someone who combines all of this.

He jumped with the baton for the first time in the 2019 season.

He mastered 2.50 meters at its premiere.

Then it went up and down.

The Germeringer was national champion in the youth M14 last year.

This year he caused an explosion in performance as the South German runner-up and won the bronze medal in the German championships.

That is why he was now in great demand as the first in the Bavarian ranking for the selection team of the Bavarian Athletics Association (BLV).

The country comparison of the U16 youth between Bavaria, Hesse and Württemberg has long been a classic in autumn - and on the weekend Jakob Zimmer was also nominated for this event in the pole vault.

Bayern dominated this international match in Aichach at will and won high.

For 15-year-old Jakob Zimmer, the participation meant an unexpected breakthrough.

His opponents were already eliminated when he only got on at 3.80 meters.

He crossed this height on the third attempt and would have actually already won.

But that wasn't enough for him.

The SVG athlete then increased his personal best three times.

After 4.20 meters there was 4.30 meters in the second attempt.

Then he boldly put up the proud height of 4.40 meters and created the sensation in the third attempt.

By skipping Jakob Zimmer not only set a new personal record.

He also won over the South German M14 champion Michael Schwarz from TSV Wasserburg (2./3.50 meters).

It gets better.

The 4.40 meters also mean a new Bavarian record.

Artur Wollert's previous record of 4.35 meters from the LAZ district of Würzburg was raised by five centimeters in 2009.

With this, Zimmer continuously increased its performance from May to 3.60 meters by 80 centimeters.

In addition to his new personal best and the Bayern record, he also increased further records.

So he is now also the new record holder in Upper Bavaria, in the Upper Bavaria-Southwest district, in the old athletics district Isar-Amper and of course also at SV Germering.

The fact that this performance is at an absolute top level is also clearly noticeable in the best lists: The SVG athlete now leads the current German annual best list of the M15 youth almost unassailable, clearly ahead of the reigning national champion Luca Brill from TSV Bayer Leverkusen with 4.20 Meters.

In addition, there are also the rankings in Bavaria and Upper Bavaria.

It is remarkable that Jakob Zimmer even landed in twelfth place in the national ranking of 16 and 17-year-old U18 youths, making him one of the best men in Bavaria.

At the end of the season, Jakob Zimmer can look forward to the next competition year with satisfaction but also determined.

It would no longer be a particular surprise if he received a nomination for one of the coveted young national squads by mail in the next few weeks.
