The online mail order company Zalando is launching a repair service for textiles together with the London startup Save Your Wardrobe.
Since Monday, customers in Berlin have been able to use the Zalando logistics network to hand over damaged clothing to regional cleaning companies, shoemakers or tailoring shops, for example "to replace a worn shoe heel, repair a vintage bag or shorten a pair of trousers."
The quality of the work performance and the sustainability of the products used are ensured by the partner company Save Your Wardrobe.
"We are conducting a comprehensive review of all providers," said the company's founder, Hasna Kourda.
The service, which can only be booked in the capital for the time being, is intended to extend the life cycle of items of clothing.
According to Zalando, it intends to extend the lifespan of at least 50 million items of clothing by 2023.
According to the survey, half of all fashion consumers believe that it would help them to act more sustainably if fashion labels and retailers offered a service for maintenance and repairs, "said Laura Coppen, who is responsible for circular business at Zalando.
Zalando is now testing this theory in practice.
The next step is to start the offer in Düsseldorf.
