The Zfarntunis Choir was established in 1963 with the encouragement and sponsorship of the Archdiocese of Aleppo and its dependencies for the Armenian Orthodox. It was formed at the beginning of the members of the Cathedral of the Church of the Forty Martyrs of the Armenian Orthodox in Aleppo, who are working on the success and continuity of this choir to this day.
In 1967, the choir was officially named by its current name, Zfarntounis, which means joy. The year 1968 witnessed a new breakthrough, as a large number of amateur young men and women from Aleppo joined it. It was the first launch by including a group of homogeneous voices, and it was the first to present the Arabic song in quadruple arrangement in the city of Aleppo.
In 1971, in commemoration of the martyrs of Syria, the choir participated in this occasion, which was held at the time in the Hall of the Sons of the Martyrs in Damascus, and was broadcast on Syrian Arab TV.
The choir performed many concerts in Lebanon and Jordan, and participated in national and national concerts that were held in the Syrian governorates, including the Al-Mahaba Festival in Lattakia, and festivals in Damascus, Kasab and Qamishli, which were attended by elite political, literary, artistic and societal figures.
The choir includes about 58 male and female singers of all ages, as it was keen to mix the Armenian and Arab heritage with a national template that enhances the sincerity of belonging to the homeland.
The Zfarntunis Choir had moved with three choirs from different governorates to the final qualifiers for the first national competition for Syrian choirs entitled (Syrian Heritage), and the results are scheduled to be announced today within the Syrian Culture Days at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus. Al-Saleh is from Latakia and the Spintiarian Choir is from Aleppo.
