French abstract painters are still accessible, especially compared to their American counterparts. Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still or Barnett Newman, their works easily sell for several tens of millions of dollars or euros.

In the spring of 2013, Christie's New York sold Rothko's painting Untitled for $66.3 million, while Newman's work Black Fire 1 sold to the audience's applause for $84.1 million.
