Consumer price index increased by 2.3% year-on-year in March in France, a clear slowdown compared to the index in February. National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) confirms its first estimate of the change in prices over one month.

In March 2024, the consumer price index (CPI) slows down to “+0.2%, after + 0.9% in February,” INSEE indicates. The increase in prices is explained by the seasonal increase in the prices of manufactured products and a slight increase in those of tobacco, INSEE says. However, “adjusted for seasonal variations”, consumer prices actually fell in March, by 0.4%, underlines INSEE. A benchmark indicator at European level, the harmonized consumerprice index (HICP) increased by two-and-a-half times as much in March as it did in February - 2.4% compared to 3.2% in the previous month.
