In 2022 there were 530,000 layoffs, who received an average compensation of 8,251 euros. The maximum compensation for unfair dismissal in permanent contracts in Spain is 33 days per year worked with a limit of 24 monthly payments.

This ceiling, in the opinion of the European Committee of Social Rights - dependent on the Council of Europe - does not respect the European Social Charter. The majority of employees laid off in 2022 were men, although they are not considerably more among those laid off. They usually suffer the worst in the labor market, usually between 35 and 44 years old.
