[HIGHLIGHTS] Housing: the number of building permits issued in 2023 falls by 23.7%

Number of building permits issued in 2023 falls by 23.7%. In total, 115,900 fewer building permits were issued than in 2022.

The number of construction starts fell by 22% over one year to 287,100 housing units. “The market is falling back to near its historic lows of 1992-1993 (275,000 units),” the French Building Federation (FFB) warned in December. The FFB predicts a recession of 5% in 2024, with a third of house builders out of business.
