Indonesia buys two Scorpene submarines from French manufacturer Naval Group. Two submarines from the French group have been ordered by Jakarta and will be built on an Indonesian shipyard.

The country is multiplying contracts with French defense manufacturers in recent years. The Scorpène, a “modern, efficient and stealthy submarine” according to the group, has already been sold in 14 units to Brazil (4 submarines), Chile (2), Malaysia (2) and the India (6). However, it does not equip the French Navy, which only has nuclear-powered submarines.
