The decline in mail over the past 10 years has caused a hole of more than 6 billion euros in turnover. In 1990, 70% of La Poste's turnover was carried by mail, a rate which will fall to 15% in 2024.

In 2035, the delivery of meals will be the primary activity of postmen in France, says CEO Philippe Wahl. The CEO was questioned at length by parliamentarians on the closures of post offices, currently numbering 7,000 and less and less frequented. “We do not have the right to transform a post office into a QP (priority district editor) if the mayor does not agree,” says Wahl, recalling that a contract linked to a city's QP was terminated in May. The company is positioning itself strongly in the home meal delivery market, a growing sector with the aging population, and which also allows Laposte to offer a local service. The group delivers “more than 15,000 meals per day” for a market of 150,000 daily meals, which makes it “the leading operator”
