A government decree now makes it compulsory to display the origin of meat used in prepared meals and processed products. This decree dated March 4, which entered into force Thursday, was taken in application of the “EGalim 2’ law.

“Meat products” are processed products, such as nuggets or ham, while “meat preparations” refer to dishes where fresh meat has been mixed with other foodstuffs, additives or condiments. An administrative fine of up to 7,500 euros was already mandatory when purchased raw.
