The famous game celebrated its 75th anniversary last December. With more than 165 million copies sold worldwide, it remains among the most popular board games in the world.

The game has been translated into 35 languages, there is a Braille version. In France, 841 clubs bring together 12,382 members of the French Scrabble® Federation in 2023. The Duplicate version is most played in French-speaking clubs: the players each have a grid and have the same letters for each shot. It is the original version of the game, the one played with the family. There is another version which is played with a family and is called Classic Scrabbles. It was invented by Alfred Mosher Butts, an American architect, who was unemployed because of the 1929 crisis. He invented an anagram game: Lexico, which was sold by Macy's in 1954. It has been sold in 121 countries since 1948, and is one of the most successful board games of all time.
