Non-profits 'Eir Amim' and 'Bammom' petitioned the High Court of Justice against the General Custodian of the Ministry of Justice. The petition demands the cancellation of 3 approved plans to build new settlements in East Jerusalem.

According to the law, the role of the general guardian is to manage abandoned properties, the owners of which are unknown. In East Jerusalem, the General custodian was given a unique and sweeping authorization in the Judicial and Administrative Arrangements Law, enacted in 1971.
