Three people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) ate too much watermelon. They developed severe hyperkalemia, a condition in which there is too much potassium in the blood.

The patients had between 6.6 and 7.4 mmol/L of potassium in their blood - the normal range is between 3.5 and 5.0. The authors of the case hope it will raise awareness of the little-known dangers of eating too many watermelon for people with CKD.
