Heavy rains have been falling for several days on the lagoon in Gironde, one of the nine departments placed on flood alert since this Saturday. Residents witnessed, helpless, the sewer outlets overflowing with wastewater.

“It’s the third time in less than six months,” says Virginie Malet, local resident and municipal councilor in opposition in the small town of Arcachon. The phenomenon was particularly visible in Lanton, a village about thirty kilometers from Arcach on the South-West coast.
