Zahrira Harifai was the recipient of the Israel Prize in 2003. For more than 50 years she was a theater and film actress, appearing in dozens of plays and films.

She died of cancer on January 2, 2013 and was laid to rest at Givat Hashlosha Cemetery. In the past year, several streets have been named after women artists, artists, intellectuals and cultural figures, including: Deborah Omer, Hannah Maron, Jacqueline Kahanov and Bracha Tzipira.
