Uziorsk in Russia was the birthplace of the Soviet Union's nuclear program. It was built in complete secrecy around the huge Mayak nuclear power plant by the Soviets in 1946.

Now it is one of the most polluted places on earth - with the residents who live there exposed to extremely high levels of radiation. Vakil Batarshin, who lives in the city, blames the "Kishtim disaster", the radioactive accident that occurred on September 29, 1957, for his illness that caused his face to be deformed. The city known as the "graveyard of the earth" was kept a secret by the leaders of theSoviet Union and by the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, while the top of the Kremlin prefers not to reveal details about it. And despite the surprise, many people still live in the town, despite the fact that it is fenced off and people are forbidden to go in or out, but the residents are happy to live there. They are told that they are the "nuclear shield and saviors of the world", and that all outsiders are the 'enemies'
