Sylviane Agacinski, 78, was elected with 13 votes out of 23 voters (including 7 refusal), against the historian Bertrand Lançon. The candidacies of Franz-Olivier Giesbert, Olivier Barrot, Benoît Duteurtre, Frédéric Beigbeder, Eric Neuhoff and Alain Borer had been rejected earlier.

The French Academy will soon welcome a newcomer with the organization, on June 22, of a new vote to replace Marc Fumaroli, who died in June 2020.
