"MTV News," one of the flagship programs of the international music network, is stepping down this week after 36 years on the air. Paramount Global, MTV's parent company, announced the dramatic move as part of a 25 percent cut in the company's U.S.

workforce. The move also affects Showtime (Homeland, Yellow, Billions), Nickelodeon, Comedy Central (South Park) and other media divisions. The program was considered groundbreaking in its heyday and undoubtedly influenced an entire generation of cultural journalists who grew up with it.
