"By increasing the number of executions, Middle East-North Africa states have violated international law and shown a profound disregard for human life," said Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty. By the end of 2022, 112 states had abolished the death penalty for all crimes.

Kazakhstan, Papua New Guinea, the Central African Republic and Sierra Leone have abolished all or part of the death sentence. Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe for common crimes have also been abolished by the states in 2022.
