Pablo García Borboroglu is the first South American to receive the "Nobel" for conservation. He founded the Global Penguin Society, of which he is currently president.

The award will be instrumental in supporting efforts to protect penguins and their habitat. The prize is the world's largest monetary prize that supports conservationists. The announcement of the award was made by the Zoological Society of Indianapolis. The winner of the $250,000 Emerging Conservation Award will also be announced on September 30.
