Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities planned to cover exterior of Giza pyramid with granite blocks. The project has been shelved after criticism from archaeologists for its risks and lack of historical rigor.

Pyramid of Mycerinus, built around 2,500 BC, stands in the shadow of the larger pyramids of Cheops and Khafre in the Giza Necropolis, west of Cairo. The only one of the more than 120 pyramids built in the country that supposedly had a granite covering, although only up to eight lower rows of blocks of this material are partially preserved.
