Excavations begun in 1978 allowed the exhumation of numerous objects from the Mexica civilization, whose golden age dates back to the 14th century. The Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques-Chirac unveils a superb sample of these treasures found mainly on the site of the Templo Major.

Numerous remains have been found there over the decades, providing insight into the social, political and religious life within this city finally conquered in the 16th century by the conquistadors.
