Garden experts in Germany say you should not mow the lawn in May. Insects need grass for nesting, as habitat and food.

The German Horticultural Society 1822 e.V. (DGG) calls for a "mowing-free May" every year. The best way to do this is to turn the lawnmower into circles from the inside with the inside to the outside, so that the insects flee into the hedges or into the garden. Some gardening work is even prohibited from March to October.
