[HIGHLIGHTS] Borrell, 'well Di Maio, an ambitious mandate awaits him'

Di Maio will take office on June 1, with an initial mandate of 21 months. The new EU Special Representative will be tasked with further developing a stronger, comprehensive and strategic EU partnership with Gulf region countries.

This is stated in an official note of the EU Council. (ANSA): Di Maio to help bring the EU's partnership with the Gulf countries to a new strategic level, to the mutual benefit, says Josep Borrell. "I welcome the Council's decision to appoint Luigi di Maio as the first EU Special. Representative for the Gulf," he says.
