Cigarette butts are thrown on the ground or in nature each year in France. 49 million euros allocated to municipalities to reduce this waste.

More than 900 municipalities are joining forces with Alcome to reduce the number of cigarette butts thrown into the street. Alcome, the first eco-organization of its kind in Europe, has doubled its budget compared to 2023, to 61 million euros. The main challenge is to encourage smokers to change their behavior, says Alcome director Marie-Noëlle Duval.
