Cancer is still one of the three most common causes of death in Germany. Only about seven to eight percent of patients survive the first five years after a diagnosis.

Gastric cancer has a poor prognosis, with a 5-year survival rate of 37 percent in women and 34 percent in men. Ovarian cancer is significantly deadlier than breast cancer. Early detection is difficult due to non-specific symptoms. The World Health Organization expects a huge increase in newly diagnosed cancer cases worldwide in the next few decades.
