Chechnya bans music it deems 'too fast or too slow' Authorities of the Russian republic of Chechnya have decided that all music must “correspond to a tempo of 80 to 116 beats per minute (BPM)” Artists have until June 1 to rewrite their music that does not meet the criteria, under penalty of not being authorized to play it in public. With this new regulation, many styles of Western music ranging from pop to techno will be banned.

In recent years, Chechenya has waged a fierce campaign against gay and LGBT people.
