Global energy-related CO2 emissions increased by 1.1% in 2023 to reach a record level. Low hydroelectric production caused by droughts and Chinese growth.

China added 565 million tonnes of CO2 to the global balance. Greenhouse gas emissions, all sectors combined, must fall by 43% by 2030 compared to 2019 to hope to meet the 1.5° C limit set by the Paris agreement, according to the IPCC. These global emissions are also expected to peak by 2025.
