Planet has experienced a warming of more than 1.5°C compared to the climate of the pre-industrial era. With an average temperature of 13.14°C, January 2024 was the hottest January on record since measurements began.

January is the 8th month in a row for which the monthly heat record has been broken, underlines Copernicus. The surface of the oceans is also overheating, with a new record in January of 20.97°C average temperature, less than 0.01°C from the previous record of August 2023.
