Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. It is the second most common in Argentina, with about 16 thousand cases a year.

Early detection is key, since most patients receive the diagnosis when the tumor is still located in the colon or rectum. The slow progression and transformation of the polyp into cancer favors periodic examinations to detect and remove polyps, thus preventing the disease. "Prevention is the best tool we have against colon cancer," says Marcelo Thomé, president of the Argentine Society of Gastroenterology.
