The extreme cyclist Omar Di Felice, after 19 days on his bicycle, triumphed in Australia at the Indian Pacific Wheel Ride. The race was marked by a tragic accident in which Australian athlete Chris Barker, a veteran of the race, lost his life after being hit while crossing the Nullarbor.

Some of the most iconic climbs in the Australian Alps were climbed, with ascents above 1600 metres, before reaching the finishing point at the Sydney Opera House. The Italian cyclist is fresh from an attempt to cross Antarctica by bike, which failed due to powdery snow caused by too high temperatures.
