First monthly heat records in several towns in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques including Lagor, Orthez and Pau: respectively 33.4°C, 32.7°C and 31.5°C. In Tarbes, 29.8°C have already been recorded, very close to the record of 30.1°C for the month of March, also reported on April 30, 2005.
A very active depression rather over the Atlantic and an anticyclone over the east of France is allowing “very hot air” from the Sahara to rise towards France.
