Researchers studied 108 lawsuits launched between 2005 and 2021 against 98 companies from Europe and the U.S. They found that attacks or court decisions against a company reduced its value by 0.41% on average.

The value of major carbon-emitting companies fell 0.57% in the days following the announcement of a lawsuit and 1.5% after an unfavorable judgment. Case in point: When a Peruvian farmer attacked German energy company RWE in 2015 for its role in global warming, stocks fell 6%.
