Holland's small town of Ede woke up with its heart in its throat when a massive deployment of police forces surrounded the Petticoat Café. An unidentified man had broken in and kidnapped four staff members, threatening to blow up the place.
150 homes near the café were evacuated, which had hosted a musical evening the previous evening. A video showing them advancing with their arms raised immediately spread across social media, prompting the intervention of Mayor René Verhulst. The crisis was fortunately resolved without any casualties.
