The orchid Dendrobium nobile and its relatives must have rest periods, otherwise they will not bloom. Some genera, such as Phalaenopsis, have no rest period, so you can fertilize all year round. If you fertilize too much, the roots can burn from the high amounts of salt - these can be recognized as whitish crystals on the substrate and roots.
