Former French Justice Minister Robert Badinter has died at the age of 95. He was the main architect of the abolition of the death penalty.
Badinter was also president of the Constitutional Council and was one of the last figures close to Mitterrand still alive. He defended with all his strength in Parliament and had approved the law he had approved. He died at his home in Bordeaux, near Paris, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife and two children.
