Nicola Sturgeon is the third person to be arrested as part of Operation Branchform. Scotland's police investigation into allegations that more than £600,000 in donations to an independence campaign were diverted from the party's coffers.

Sturgeon's husband, Peter Murrell, a 24-year SNP administrator, was arrested at their home in Uddingston near Glasgow on April 5 and released after 12 hours of interrogation. The party's treasurer, Colin Beattie, was also detained and questioned aspart of the same inquiry on April 18.
