The famous Caesar salad is not named after any Caesar at all. Caesar salad was invented in 1924 by chef Cesare (Caesar - Caesar) Cardini who was an immigrant from Italy.

He lived in San Diego, California, but ran a chef restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico - alongside his brother Alex. Each of the parties, Cesare and Alex, tried to take credit for the invention of the salad. "There was a bloody battle," writes food historian Martin Lindsay. In the end, the brothers parted ways in the joint business.
