Guadeloupean writer Maryse Condé died at 87. The prolific author, who had written less than 70 books, had tried her hand at a whole range of genres.

In 2018, she received the “alternative” Nobel Prize, established by a “New Academy” “In her works, with precise language”, she “describes the ravages of colonialism and the chaos of postcolonialism” she praised the institution. She also received the prize from the French Academy in 1988.
