Jaren Gamongan, from the Philippines, was born with a condition called hypertrichosis, better known as 'werewolf syndrome' This is an extremely rare syndrome that occurs once in a billion births. Jaren's mother, Alma, insists that the reason her son was born hairy lies in what she ate during pregnancy.

The mother is sure that her son's appearance is due to a curse placed on her after she ate the wild cat's meat. However, when she finally took her son to a specialist about two weeks ago, she found out that this is a very rare but familiar medical condition, and that eating the cat has nothing to do with the syndrome, at least not according to scientific evidence. Between 50 and 100 such cases have been reported worldwide since the Middle Ages. There is no cure for this syndrome, but treatments such as laser hair removal may help. We will try to do it in the coming months and hope that the hair does not continue to grow.
