A judge in Tucumán signed an original sentence to recognize the right to identity of Theo, adopted by Guillermo and Daniel. The judge used phrases from the letters the painter wrote to his younger brother Theodore from August 1872 to July 1890.

Mariana Josefina Rey Galindo wrote a letter to the family, along with a painting by Van Gogh, to tell them that he had made room for full adoption. In 2020 he dictated one for a nine-year-old girl to understand, who asked not to give up any of her parents.
