There are still 11.3 million wood stoves in Germany, according to the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) Fine dust emissions from wood-burning stoves are more than twice as high as exhaust emissions from road traffic. The new Federal Immission Control Act now lists stricter pollutant levels for stoves, which is why many old stoves will have to be shut down at the end of 2024.
